Sustaining Leadership: Raising Up and Pushing Forward
Description:
Often we see leaders in isolation. But one aspect of leadership, and of sustaining the growth of leaders is the process of raising up and pushing forward. That is cultivating leaders and leadership in folks around us. What it has meant for me and how it sustains our community, and some key steps to get started.

growing new leaders
This is a very thoughtful presentation, and gives a good picture of the work of this kind of leadership: seeing people's potential (and their accomplishments so far), and making that recognition concrete by providing them openings and opportunities. You make it sound very pedagogical, and just as one learns a subject more deeply when one teaches it, so you go more deeply into leadership by helping others to exercise leadership themselves.

A ship in a harbor is safe, but that's not why ships are built
This was a wonderful video providing the perspective to push yourself to try new things, and the author shares how this occurred for him while teaching at a university...this is your last year! This video shares that leaders are leaders in part...because they lift others up (who might not even see their own potential) and push them forward to excel. A ship in a harbor is safe, but that is not why ships are built!
Great Conversation Starter!
As teachers we can be leaders to our student, as well as to other teachers. The only way to sustain quality teachers is to support them in the beginning of their career. Mentors are so important in fostering a love of teaching to the "newbies." Great clip that showcases how we all can be leaders!
