Candyce A. Curry is a native of Huntsville, Alabama. She has been an educator in the Birmingham, Alabama area for over 18 years. Most notably, she was an Advanced Sciences teacher for Freshmen, Juniors and Seniors at Huffman High School where she was awarded the Teacher of the Year Award for two consecutive years. She is a graduate of Stillman College and Alabama Agricultural and Mechanical University with degrees in Biology and Biology Education respectively.
In Candyce’s experience as an educator, she has discovered that STEM education is an integral portion of a person’s understanding of everyday life and can address many educational insufficiencies. That is why it is an essential part of any curriculum. Believing that no child should be left behind and that a highly qualified teacher can be a highly effective teacher, lends her to the practice of reaching out to learners and allowing each one of them to have their own learning experience which is the key to a successful teacher and knowledgeable students.
Candyce also believes that continuous professional growth is imperative to the success of a teacher. In her role as a STREAM Instructional Coach/Specialist, she serves as their liaison and partner. She strives to complement and enhance instruction with “C.L.A.S.S.” (Creative/Cooperative/Committed, Learning that’s, Appropriate/Accessible, Strategic & Sensational. She encourages the integration of technology, in order to make student learning more authentic which can lead to diversity of learning for individual mastery. I believe that intentional use of educational technology in all content areas is the integral piece of the puzzle that levels the platform for all learners.
