Mrs. Latisha King, an advocate for STEM education and one who demonstrates enthusiasm and innovation, is an 8th-grade teacher at Arlington Middle School in Arlington, Tennessee. Throughout her tenure at Arlington Middle, she has been recognized on many levels. Most recently she was named Teacher of the Year by her peers. In addition, for two consecutive years, she was recognized as Tennessee’s Middle School Science Teacher of the Year nominee.
Currently, she serves as the science department chair, Discovery Education Leadership Council, Technology Capacity Building team, School-wide Leadership team, and Apple Distinguished Schools team. Most recently, Latisha has taken on a new role as a school-wide instructional support coach in addition to her role as a teacher. Because of her content knowledge in the area of science, she has been selected by the Tennessee Department of Education to serve as a member of the TCAP Performance Level Descriptor and Standard Settings committees that is designed to help refine the state assessment used to measure student growth and achievement in science.
As a lifelong learner, Latisha continues to engage in professional development opportunities where she has served as a participant as well as a presenter. She has presented at varied conferences - Tennessee Association for Middle Schools, Union University’s Lifelines for Educators, and Tennessee Science Teachers Association.
While keeping her commitment to education, in her spare time, she engages in social action serving in the National Sorority of Phi Delta Kappa, Inc., Gamma Psi Chapter. In her role, she has led and/or overseen many initiatives such as website development, membership, fundraising for scholarships, and curriculum development in STEM education. She is also an active member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Gamma Alpha Omega Chapter. During her summers off from the traditional classroom, she enjoys working as a S.T.E.M. camp instructor and developing curriculum.
Latisha, the wife of Dr. Marlon King, and mother of one son, Hudson, live in Jackson, Tennessee.
